Trial by Fire (Going Down in Flames #3)
by Chris Cannon
Release Date: April 4th 2016

Summary from Goodreads:

Bryn’s hopes for a peaceful new semester at school go up in smoke when someone tries to kill her—again. She’s not sure which is scarier, facing the radicals who want to sacrifice her for their cause, or her impending nightmare-of-a-Directorate-arranged marriage to her nemesis, Jaxon.

The one bright spot in her life is Valmont, her smoking-hot knight who is assigned to watch over her twenty-four hours a day. Is what she feels for him real, or just a side effect of the dragon-knight bond? At this point, stopping the impending civil war might be easier than figuring out her

My review

I have so many things to say. First, I swear I read the first two books about 5 times while waiting for this one. I've read the first book probably 10 times now. And you would think I would expect all the things the author could throw at me but NO! I was still surprised, and humbled, and I have new loves and new hates, and I'm still filled with awe. I don't know how this series is going to play out, but I will gladly purchase every book and reread them all! I've become increasingly adoring to the characters and the stories! I will never cease to be amazed at how well this author has put these fictional people in my heart and I refuse to think about an ending- I will cry and maybe throw a fit or two. But now enough about me- let me tell you about what's happening in Bryn's world!

So, of course there's more people out to kill her. It seems someone is always after her. She is learning more and more of the councils' secrets, she's becoming closer with her grandma, she has a wonderful knight that I believe they might be more than just that, and a possible future arranged marriage husband, and some fantastic friends that are standing by her side. So, first, when everyone realizes just how much danger Bryn is in, they assign valmont as her personal guard. Which is great. Until someone puts it in her mind that their feelings might not be real. Then they start to doubt a lot. But meanwhile, Jaxon might over come the horror of marrying Bryn, he loves Rhianna, and yet, he's still willing to help Bryn fight. I am growing to love Jaxon more and more as Bryn opens his eyes to things he always overlooked. Now I don't think I'd go so far as team Bryn-&-Jaxon, I'm still team Valmont, but with these changes comes the realization that there's more to Jaxon than meets the eyes. And Rhianna is becoming a favorite, as Clint and Ivy will firmly stay in my BFF pile.

But now, we start to see even more inner workings of the council and how far they are willing to go to get what they want. And no, not everyone is happy about this. And there's new dragons that will enter the scene that will make you think- hard- about a lot of things. Oh, and we get cool new powers and magics added too. It was fun to see this. The suspense at the end, I must say, poor Bryn has horrible school dance experiences. Lol! But wow- I'm still a little shocked!

As for the writing. Come on- it's a little bit of perfection! How else would so many of us all be salivating at getting our hands on this book!! :) Everything is done right-- excellent character growth, new sub plots added while still keeping to the over all integrity of the original lines, beautiful additions of new characters, a continual suspense of the build and climax, as well as adding to the lives of the original characters. And lastly, words placed together in a magical way that sucks you in and won't let you go. Seriously, I refused to put this book down- let's say I've over come some difficulties with learning how to hold my kindle and do strange things!! But lastly, I feel completely justified reading this one while still needing more for the next book! It wraps up just enough to leave you satisfied with that hanging element that makes you beg for more! So now with that said, I've decided this author has placed dragons at the top of my list! If you can't get into how cool this series is, we can't be friends ;) SUPERB!! I am never patient in wait for the next book but thank goodness the author indulges my crazy! Lol 5 PHENOMENONAL DRAGON PAWS!!!

Character interview!!!
Questions for Jaxon & Val!

1.WELCOME Jaxon and Valmont!! I am so thrilled to have you guys here! I've been a huge fan of both of you since the beginning, just for different reasons! First, tell me a little bit about yourself and your life…
Jaxon: “My father is speaker for the Directorate.”
Valmont: “You would start with that.”
Jaxon turns laser-piercing glare on Valmont.  “It’s not bragging if it’s true. Besides in our world there is a hierarchy for a reason. Not that you’d understand that since your highest aspiration is to work at your family’s Italian reseraunt.”
Valmont: Draws his broadsword. “Allow me to demonstrate my dicing and slicing technique.”
The air around Jaxon shimmers, as he shifts into a Blue dragon. “Give it your best shot.”
Bryn pops into the room. “What’s going on in here?”
Valmont: Nothing
Jaxon: Nothing
Bryn: Okay, I’ll be right out side if you need me. *exits room
2. What’s your favorite part about being “different”? One of you is a dragon shifter and the other is a knight to a dragon, so give me the juicy stuff lol
Valmont: My favorite part of being Bryn’s knight, being magically bonded to her is the connection that I feel when we’re together. When we fly, it’s like we’re one person.”
Jaxon: Flying is the best part of being a dragon.
3.Speaking of the different, you both are significant in Bryn's life, tell me how you feel about that.
Jaxon:“How do I feel about Bryn being in my life? Irritated, annoyed, sometimes nauseous depending on the company she happens to be keeping at the time
Valmont: “I’m honored to be part of Bryn’s life. It’s my sacred duty to destroy anyone who wishes her harm.
4.Jaxon, how do you think it will play out with you possibly having to marry Bryn?
Jaxon: Do you remember that nauseous feeling I mentioned earlier?
5.And Valmont, how are you going to take it if that happens? No worries, I got your back on this vote!
If that should come to pass, it won’t be a real marriage, more like a business partnership and while I won’t like it, it won’t end my relationship with Bryn.
6.Jaxon- are you excited to have a baby sibling? I'm thrilled for your mom- whom I love by the way!! Tell her I'd love to have lunch too!
JaxonI’m happy that my mother is happy.
Valmont: What’s that saying…an heir and a spare…I wonder which one you’ll be.
Jaxon:  I’m the oldest so I am the heir.
(*Valmont grins) For now.
7.Jaxon- tell me something you like about Bryn- and no you may not say something ridiculous like she has nice hair lol though she does!
She doesn’t back down from a fight. She’s honorable.
8. Ok, now be nice- but tell me how you two are gonna work together and like each other enough to get through all the bad things going around?
Jaxon:  We’ll work together for the good of the Institute, but I don’t see us becoming BFF’s anytime soon.
ValmontAgreed.
A little of this and that…
            9.  We're all dying to know- boxers or briefs? (Come on y'all are both hawt!) ðŸ˜€
Valmont: Boxers, usually with stripes.
Jaxon: It’s inappropriate to discuss such things.
Winter or summer? Jaxon: Winter, it’s in my blood.
10. Favorite color? Jaxon: Do you really have to ask? Blue, of course.
Valmont: I don’t really have a favorite. Is that weird?
       Jaxon: Yes.
Thanks so much for hanging out with us, Guys! I’m a huge fan and I can’t believe this awesome adventure is happening!! I'm still going to champion Jaxon- but no worries Valmont, you're perfect for Bryn the way you are, so there's no need to champion you!! I hope we can do this again soon :)

Book One:

Going Down in Flames
by Chris Cannon
Release Date: June 30th 2014
Entangled Teen

Summary from Goodreads:

Finding out on your sixteenth birthday you’re a shape-shifting dragon is tough to swallow. Being hauled off to an elite boarding school is enough to choke on.

Since Bryn is the only crossbreed at the Institute for Excellence, all eyes are on her, but it’s a particular black dragon, Zavien, who catches her attention.

Zavien is tired of the Directorate’s rules. Segregated clans, being told who to love, and close-minded leaders make freedom of choice almost impossible. The new girl with the striped hair is a breath of fresh air, and with Bryn’s help, they may be able to change the rules.

At the Institute, old grudges, new crushes, and death threats are all part of a normal day for Bryn. She’ll need to learn to control her dragon powers if she wants to make it through her first year at school. But even focusing on staying alive is difficult when you’re falling for someone you can’t have.

Book Two:
Bridges Burned (Going Down in Flames #2)
by Chris Cannon
Release Date: January 19th 2015
Entangled Teen

Summary from Goodreads:

Since discovering she is a shape-shifting, fire-breathing dragon on her sixteenth birthday (surprise!), Bryn McKenna’s world has been thrown into chaos. Being a “crossbreed”—part Red dragon and part Blue—means Bryn will never fit in. Not with dragon society. Not with the archaic and controlling Directorate. And definitely not when she has striped hair and a not-so-popular affection for rule-breaking…

But sneaking around with her secret boyfriend, Zavien, gets a whole lot harder when he’s betrothed to someone else. Someone who isn't a mixed breed and totally forbidden. And for an added complication, it turns out Bryn’s former archnemesis Jaxon Westgate isn’t quite the evil asshat she thought. Now she’s caught between her desire to fit in and a need to set things on fire. Literally.

Because if Bryn can’t adapt to the status quo…well, then maybe it’s time for her to change it.
