Withering Rose (Once Upon a Curse #2)
by Kaitlyn Davis
Genre: YA Fantasy/Fairy Tale Retelling
Release Date: May 17th 2016

Summary:

 **A USA Today Recommended Series!**

What if Beauty was cursed, and the Beast was the only one who could save her? Don't miss WITHERING ROSE, a dystopian romance from bestselling author Kaitlyn Davis that reimagines the classic fairy tale of Beauty & The Beast. This is the second book in Once Upon A Curse, a series of interconnected stand-alone novels all set in the same fantasy universe.

"As the heat finally disappeared, I felt the bloom blossom in the very core of my soul, a rose just like my name—a ticking clock hidden behind a façade of beauty. From that moment on, my life would become a countdown, and all I could do was wait and watch as the petals of time slowly started to fall."

Omorose Bouchene has a secret—magic. There's only one problem. At the age of seven, an earthquake struck, catapulting her into a new world. A land made of skyscrapers and cell phones. Fast cars and fluorescent lights. A land where magic isn't supposed to exist and anyone who wields it is the enemy.

But after ten years of hiding, she's desperate to find a place where she can be free. Because all magic comes with a curse, and her curse is time—every ounce of power she uses strips days off of her life. The clock is winding down, and the only option left is to escape to the realm ruled by a man known only as the Beast. But the king of monsters isn’t what he seems. And the more Omorose opens her heart, the more she comes to realize that the only person she may need to fear is herself.

**My Review

Wow!!! I don't know why it always surprises me how truly magnificent Ms Davis's writing skills really are!! I have loved everything she's written. And though her dragon series stole my heart many moons ago, I'm still completely in love with this series. And Withering Rose is extra special, plus the name is a literal meaning for the story. Ok let me see if I can tell you about things without ruining the real goodies for you :) So in the last book we learned about the earthquake that mixed the magical and non magical worlds. We also met Jade and Asher whom I still adore!! But Omorose, aka Rose, and Cole, well they have their own little curse going on. And it's even worse than we thought. I can't tell you everything but I will let a few things slip.

Rose is special. When the story opens, she's young but strong and willful and full of passion. But within moments everything changes and Rose did not have an easy time for the last 10 years. And humans want to destroy everything magical so she's trapped, hiding for her own survival and the safety of her father. But she's had enough. She runs to the place where "the beast" lives. He's the closest place of magic to where she is stationed and she wants to live, not just breath for survival. But she is so not expecting what she finds. The king of the beasts is a gorgeous guy, not much older than her, and though he's been basically secluded, he has a big heart, he's just shut it off from everyone. And Cole, well just like beauty and the beast, when you take a moment to actually see him for who he is and not what he is, you can't help but completely fall in love with him. And when you find out his story, lawd the tears. It's so sad.

The twists of how the curses come into place are just great. The classic fairy tales have been bettered by Ms Davis's creativity. And seriously, seeing Asher and Jade for a moment just made my day. And though all is not completely happy, we're pretty darn close. And that little shocker at the end, my jaw dropped. I can't wait to see the next book. I know I gotta wait a while for it, but it's so worth it. I loved the pack of wolves and the super sweet snow leopard. And I loved Rose's dad, even if I think he sheltered her too much, I know he never did it to hurt her but to keep her safe. I'm glad some of that is better. And the writing. It's just beautiful what the scenes felt like and the twist of the "withering rose", well it's perfect! No it's not like the beauty and the beast original, Ms Davis put a spin on that too and I loved it. Gotta keep everyone on their toes! And to Ms Davis- I gotta say-- THANK YOU!!! For keeping me updated when I harass you and for writing utterly spectacular stories! To everyone else- pick up a book by Ms Davis. My first recommendations would be the first in this series- Gathering Frost, and the first of her dragon series. Though that one is different it's flipping fantastic! Just pick up any book by her! You won't regret it. My regret is I can't magically make her books come to me faster lol! Well done!! I'm ready for round three :) 5 MAGICAL BEARY PAWS!! And WOLFY paws too:)

Gathering Frost (Once Upon a Curse #1)

RAVE REVIEWS for Gathering Frost!

"My favorite thing about this book is the action. Jade isn't a sleeping princess. She's the best fighter and so fierce in her "empty" state. I felt like this was an urban fantasy with all the steam of a romance, and it was almost perfect for me." - Jessie Potts, USA TODAY Happy Ever After Blog

"Davis writes with confidence and poise, and the story's many twists and turns stave off predictability and allow readers to become immersed in a starkly magical world filled with last hopes." - Publisher's Weekly

"Gathering Frost is just awesome in every way. Beautiful prose, lots of heart-wrenching emotion, action and romance, a great, unstoppable villain, and a smart, tough heroine who will fight for what she wants." - Geeks in High School

"The writing is flawless as always and I must say, way to take a classic and make such a creative and wonderful twist to it...It's well thought out and it unbelievably magnificent. I seriously couldn't put it down. Wait I never actually put it down. I started and finished in one sitting because it's just that good. This one is a MUST READ." - Happy Tails and Tales Blog
